About us

Our chapter of Swedish clog history began over a hundred years ago in Troentorp, a small village just outside Båstad, in the south of Sweden.

After spending eight years learning his craft from the local cobbler, in 1907 August Johanssonwas finally ready to start his own company, which he called Troentorp. Over the years, he developed and perfected the production process, and in 1942. August’s sons, Börje and Stig, took over the family business.

Today, we are proud to say that August Johansson’s legacy that started over 100 years ago is still alive in our factory. Though fully modernized to meet the needs of contemporary customers in terms of comfort and design, the knowledge and craftsmanship handed down through generations of cobblers are still visible in every pair of our wooden clogs.

Troentorp has always emphasized the importance of anatomically correctly constructed footwear, with a base that provides support for feet and back. Having in mind that this is particularly important to people who wear clogs while working, we are proud to say that many of our customers come from the restaurant and care industries and use chef and nurse clogs all day, every day. The base of every Troentorp clog is made of extra thick planks of wood and constructed using our specially developed equipment. This way, we give our Ideal and Original soles their characteristic footbeds with raised heels and arch support. Moreover, we use Alderwood, a type of wood that is well-known for its moisture-absorbing properties, and that keep feet dry and healthy during long workdays.

We are especially glad to see that our clogs have found their way to the streets of New York, Tokyo, Paris, Stockholm and many other cities around the world. We hope that you will also have the opportunity to feel the comfort of your very own clogs, whichever Troentorp model you choose.

We are looking forward to making you comfortable, unique clogs for many happy years to come!
